No building on the Zaan banks is quite as theatrical as De Adelaar (The Eagle). Its location, in Wormerveer, opposite an attractive block of warehouses, is also very appealing. When in the late eighties the building was targeted for demolition, it met with strong protest from the local people. The rapidly expanding fashion company Vanilia has a fondness for monumental buildings and saw the potential. Vanilia, with support from the provincial and municipal authorities, decided to buy and restore the Adelaar. This proud monument begins a new life as the head office of a fashion company.
